Diagnostic Imaging

Sometimes, we need to look a bit deeper

There is a lot that we can learn about your dog or cat’s health by performing a hands-on examination.

Sometimes, though, we need to look a bit deeper. Whether it’s determining the severity of an injury, searching for an ingested foreign body, or examining one of the body’s many organs and other structures, we rely on diagnostic imaging when we need to peer inside our patients’ bodies. Here at Coastal Animal Medical Center, we are thrilled to have state-of-the-art equipment that allows us to provide in-house diagnostic imaging services in Lakewood Ranch.

Our Diagnostic Imaging Capabilities

Image
We believe in staying on the cutting edge of medical technology and are proud to have a full suite of advanced diagnostic imaging equipment.

Digital Radiographs

Radiography (also known as X-ray) allows us to capture images of the organs and structures. The images produced using digital radiography are much clearer than those produced on film, and they can be digitally manipulated to make them even easier to read. Plus, digital files can be shared with radiologists and other veterinary professionals in minutes. We use this technology to assess injuries and to observe the size and position of all the body’s organs.

Digital Dental Radiographs

With digital dental radiographs, our vets can view the internal workings of your pet’s mouth. This important diagnostic tool allows us to detect dental problems that we wouldn’t be able to see with the naked eye. Digital dental radiography is safe and non-invasive, and it is a vital component of our dental services.

Ultrasound

We depend on ultrasound technology when we need a clear image of the soft tissues inside a pet’s body. It is widely used in diagnosing heart and abdominal abnormalities, but it can be used to peer inside all fluid-filled organs. Ultrasound is pain-free, non-invasive, and uses sound waves instead of radiation.

In most cases, our team can interpret test results and provide a diagnosis within minutes. However, we also have the ability to consult with a board-certified radiologist and/or cardiologist when necessary. These consultations are done digitally, and we typically receive results in as little as one to two hours.
